CES successfully delivered the practical completion of two right-hand extensions. Located along the Great Western Highway at Pendle Hill, this project demonstrated CES's ability to handle complex road pavement construction. Work was completed under RMS standards while managing asbestos-contaminated materials safely and efficiently.
Site Establishment — Mobilised crews, plant and materials; set out survey control; established a secure compound with amenities; implemented traffic management under live-traffic conditions (signage, delineation, barriers); located services; installed initial erosion/sediment controls; conducted pre-start safety and environmental briefings.
R73 — Heavy Bound Base (Flexible Pavement) — Produced plant-mixed cementitious bound base and placed by paver to design thickness/crossfall; trimmed and compacted to target density/modulus; protected and cured prior to overlay; verified level/thickness and compaction at ITP hold points.
R82 — Lean Mix Sub-Base (Rigid Pavement) — Batched and placed lean-mix concrete sub-base beneath rigid pavement; consolidated, finished to grade and cured; installed construction and isolation joints as detailed; completed strength and thickness conformance testing.
R83 — JRCP Base Pavement (Rigid Pavement) — Constructed jointed reinforced concrete base with aligned dowels/tie bars and fixed reinforcement; placed and finished concrete; saw-cut and sealed transverse/longitudinal joints to timing; cured slabs; verified thickness, ride, joint spacing/sealant and compressive strength.
R33 — Interface & Edge Trench Drains (650 lm) — Excavated, graded and installed trench drain channels with concrete surrounds and load-rated grates; set to line/level for positive drainage and tied into pits/outfalls; reinstated adjacent pavement.
R15 – Kerb (340 lm) — Set stringline, formed and poured kerb (and local kerb & gutter where required); installed expansion/isolation joints at specified intervals; finished, cured, backfilled and reinstated verges/adjacent pavement.
Asbestos Removal (≈2,400 t) — Managed asbestos-contaminated material under a project-specific Asbestos Removal Control Plan with licensed personnel: exclusion zones, wet-handling and air monitoring; loaded/covered for haulage with EPA waste tracking to a licensed facility; completed decontamination, validation sampling and hygienist clearances.
Asphaltic Placement (Temporary) — Installed temporary asphalt to maintain trafficability and staging: saw-cut tie-ins, applied tack coat, placed and compacted mix to achieve ride and drainage; sealed interfaces and monitored pending final surfacing.
